| Elco electric drive AC motor http://www.elcomotoryachts.com/elco-motors.shtml Says it can charge batteries as the boat moves under sail power by spinning the prop by leaving the key on. Nice looking AC system which has a sealed motor. Made to drop in place of a diesel or gas motor in a sailboat. how do they figure out this type of MPG such as 50mpg? http://www.elcomotoryachts.com/elco-...ce-guide.shtml OK, is this something that is a good idea? |

| "OK, is this something that is a good idea?" If you wish to add either 5000+lbs of batteries or spend $50,000 on fancier, lighter batts , you might get 10 miles at a crawl. Charging batts underway does work, BUT , to see how well, find a pail that is about 50% bigger than the diameter of the generator. Trail it astern to simulate the drag of the charging rig at different speeds.. Good Idea , your decision, FF |
