CODAD Propulsion System Question
Hey guys,
I am designing a catamaran patrol boat with a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) system in each demihull. All of the other examples of this system I have seen use two of the same engines (same hp and rpm rating) going to the gearbox. Is it OK to use two different engines with different power ratings (assuming they have the same max rpm rating) for this type of system? I see practical reasons why you would want the same engine--maintenance commonality, etc--but are there any mechanical reasons why engines of different powers wouldn't work? Any information you can provide about CODAD systems would be appreciated as well--I am very new to the setup and can't find much literature on the subject.
Thanks!
