Win7 upload problem

Since I have moved over from Win-XP to WIN-7 , I cannot up load jpeg, excel and word files anymore onto the boat.net forum threads (and any other kind of file). What have I done wrong?
I am getting "page error". I tried every trick I could think up. Imported the photo into a word file and then copied it to the "reply window" in the forum thread, no luck. The text is transferred but not the picture.
Any help there? I like to up-load my stabitilty and righting arms calculations for the forum, to comment on.
Many thanks
Bert

Could you please email a couple of the exact files that failed to upload for you to webmaster@boatdesign.net so I can give it a try.

Have you also tried with a different browser, e.g. if you're using Internet Explorer can you give Firefox a try (or chrome or safari)

It won't ever work to copy an image inline from word directly into the reply box here, but clicking Go Advanced on the quick reply (or the blue Post Reply button) and then Manage Attachments should allow you to upload as before in windows 7 and the above browsers. A while back there were some issues hitting memory limits when server software was updated, but I haven't seen any issue in the last couple of months. Email a couple of exact files which cause an error for you and also please give it a try in at least one alternate browser.

Thanks Jeff,

It has to do something with WIN7 settings. I have e-mailed one of them to CDK and he kindly put the jpeg file onto the net. (Thread No 249 did a dream got shattered) However we both agreed that it has to do something with WIN7 as he uses WINXP and I also had no problems with WINXP. I will try your suggestions and check again. It has nothing to do with your excellent website and system. It is my settings somehow.

When I try to up-load a picture or excell file,
a) I click on paperclip (attachements)
b) it becomes blue
c) at left bottom of my screen, just above the gif file with : world/microsoft I see esclamationmark + Done
d) I click on manage attachements and then I get instead of "Done" esclamation mark with Error on page. (Additional Options window)
This normally means that the link is blocked to the website I am trying to reach.
Over time I will figure out what is wrong
Thanks
bert

Did you check your security policies. Some file transfers may be blocked by default.

Thanks for helping me.

I tried with security at its lowest level, no luck. What do you have as an operating system?

I do not operate win7 so I cannot give specific instructions. Mine is a general diagnosis based on what I have seen so far. Your problem looks like its either from your security settings, firewall or a bugged browser. You can try a different browser, you can temporarily disable firewall (if its a third party firewall you may need to uninstall it and clean with ccleaner). As for modifying security settings, setting it to low may not be enough. Find your network settings and security policy settings in control panel and manually check them. Manually check your browser settings if its a third party browser. Also check the forum you are uploading to. You may be restricted for some reason. Check out tomshardware guide, if its an OS problem others may have encountered and solved it already.

Yes, I thought already that you run another OS like Linux or Unix or Sinex.
Thank you for your advise, most appreciated. I will check all of them out. I just got a message from Teddydiver, that he run both XP and WIN7 without any upload problems. It is not boat.net, as Jeff has check it out and gave me also some advise. I therefore concluded that it is somewhere in my setting . Microsoft automatically updates my software, thus it can only be my settings.
If I cannot resolve it. I place what I want to upload on my website at my service provider some 400 km away, with File Transfer Protocol and make a link to this information in a thread. But I will only do that, if I really cannot get it right. Thanks for the help.
Bert

Hi Yipster,

Do I understand you correctly. You running now WIN7 and you were able to say "hello" and posted this reply WITH YOUR OWN computer, but via a neighbour 's different service provider.
If the above is correct, your problem maybe with the service provider and not with your dual core computer. I was considering the same with my problem, but WIN7 does no longer allow direct links to websites, you have to click on shortcut to the link and then paste this at the top to enable to make contact with this website.
I am not too sure whether you have a computer problem.
Bert

This sounded like a problem that would be on this side (firewall / routing) so I do a little digging and I believe this *may* be solved now. I found one IP that I believe was yours that was blocked on Fri Jun 18 2010. In May/June the firewall config was completely redone and it was a bit too sensitive at first I'm afraid -- unfortunately on the web now bots are continually scraping and scanning around, spam bots looking for email addresses to harvest, content scrapers looking to create those ad-only sites by copying other websites, and malicious bots looking for any common vulnerabilities. The goal is to stop any malicious automated bot behavior before it consumes a ton of resources and bandwidth but without actually catching real people, but it's a cat and mouse game as malicious bots don't politely announce their identity or follow robots rules, etc.
In any case, let me know if things are improved, and if so, I'm very sorry that this false positive caused an issue for so long.

Hi Yipster,

Jeff's reply also explains now your previous problem, when you tried to up-load that copy of the name and address of the designer, somebody was looking for. Thread ??? Pleased that it is sorted out for you.

Jeff, is there any possiblity, because my e-mail address has the name software in it, that it get blocked out? This could also explain why I am no longer can up load my files. I am puzzled that with windows XP, my security settings are excactly the same as with Win7. Any chance to look into this?
Many thanks
Bert

I don't see anything amiss with your forum account that would cause the upload to be blocked and I have not to date seen anything which would affect *only* the upload function and not anything else and *only* for a single user. Still, if it's ok, I'm going to send you a PM Bert and reset your forum password to a temporary one so I can actually login exactly as you and test the upload myself just to be sure it's not something odd on this side.
