is there a scanner I can use to print the shape of half models,

Unfortunately, not that I know of. However, with half models you can trace the lines. That is the reason to make half models. The layers are set over paper and then use a pencil. I can see that making a table of offsets and then digitizing them is way more work. A problem with scanners, is that the definition is pretty good for scanning an actual hull, but with a model, the errors may be too large.

some small CNC enterprises have unoccupied laser scanners for small parts (customers compel them to have one for quality control), may be they can scan your model by the pound...?
