Rhino for OS X is in development

The major technical challenges have been overcome, but there are still many months of work left to do.

Please note that Rhino OS X requires OS X 10.5 or later and does not run on 10.4. Also, plug-ins for Windows Rhino will NOT work with Rhino OS X.

Thanks,
But of Course, and as is usually my luck ,, I use 10.4.
In other THreads I see that FREEship seems to be the SW
of most folks on Boat Design Net.
I have heard there are some programs that allow running
some Windows or Lunix based SW on a Mac.
Do you have any knowledge of that.
Thanks
Bill PKS.

TouchCAD is not a freeware, but it runs natively on both Mac OSX 10.3-10.6 (it is also Universal Binary so it runs on PPC and Intel Macs), as well as on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

http://www.touchcad.com

If you like to see a presentation of what it can do, I suggest that you have a look at the 20 minute movie called "Why TouchCAD for Marine Design", found here: http://www.touchcad.com/tc3trainMarin.html

Some examples of boats being 100% modeled in TouchCAD. Some images where rendered externally.

ludesign,

From a quick look, it looks good.

There appears to be some relation to Vectorworks.
I have Vectorworks for A&E work, but never could use it.
Since I have never been able to see thru a 2x4, I like to design to the face of framing rather than CL, and Vectorworks would always snap back to CL.
I would expect it would be simpler (from a construction standpoint ) to construct a one-off boat the same way>>> Design to Face of Framing , and then specify a finish thickness ( which would be necessary for Hyrdo Calcs.)

I'll look carefully at TOUCH Cad.
Thanks

There is no special relationship or connection to Vectorworks, and TouchCAD is a completely stand alone program. Vectorworks is however by far the biggest player on the general CAD scene for the Mac. I think nearly half of the some 500,000 users are on Mac. Vectorworks is a really good program, based on Siemens Parasolids 3D engine, but like most stock CAD programs, it is not particularly well suited for hull fairing and boat design.
