I don't nead all the ported software, moust things can or will runn in wine.

What bothers me is the hardware manyfacturers not releasing drivers for linux.

StainM, What flavour do you run? & what hardware drivers do you need?

It took me a little while to sort out which manufacturers suppoirt linux. Many now do, but I now favour brother (printers), both nvidia & AMD video drivers have manufacturer & community support, & many clevo manufactured notebooks, but I am still after one without the glossy lcd and with AMD cpu as they (in notebook form) use far less power & will slow down under linux control when that oomph is not needed, conserving battery & reducing heat output.

My flavour is "linux mint" with wine to run DelftShip & FreeShip. I am toying with the idea of ubuntu-studio to cover all music, video & stills editing & manipulation at fairly complex levels made easy with gui.
