Image Gallery Added - You are all welcome to post photos There are still a few details to be worked out, but I have now added a Photo Gallery section to Boat Design Net where any of our forum members can upload photos for the rest of us to look at. You'll notice a "Gallery" button on the top right and a link in the footer to the Gallery as well. The difference between this and the existing ability to attach images to forum posts is that the Gallery script automagically generates thumbnails and medium resolution versions of uploaded images. So it should provide a fun way to browse as well as a nice way to organize various images - from dream boats which the rest of us can drool over to your own boats to project and construction photos to design drawings which the rest of us can comment on. If you prefer to continue to use the forum to post images, that's great too. I think the two should compliment each other nicely. Login Usernames and Passwords are shared with the forums. As always, suggestions are welcome. I'll be adding new categories and suggestions are welcome there as well. And feel free to play with it if you have some time to spare ![]() http://boatdesign.net/gallery/

Nice job Jeff! This is a great addition. I also note that if you do a right click, copy shortcut, you can paste a link to your pic like this http://www.boatdesign.net/gallery/sh...o.php?photo=21 i- that might even speed up the forum load times for threads with lots of pics!

Brilliant Jeff!!! Great work on the gallery! I'll submit something as soon as I have anything interresting enough to show as I'm still learning. Currently I do most larger drawings by hand and I don't have a scanner, bummer. But I do most concept drawings on the computer using whatever graphics program currently "doing it for me". At the moment I'm using Macromedia Flash a lot. It allows me to shape curves and draw simply and fast working in different layers. As soon as I can find something out there that works for me and is within my budget I'll change to a proper Cad program. Te ones I've tried so far has not been worth the hassle. I cant be bothered with how ta make a curve when I do sketches and I try to do the "big stuff" by hand until I've learned to draw by hand better. So far what I've been looking at Rhino looks like a good one, but I haven't had the time or the computer to really try it properly since I'm along time Mac user. Well I guess I'll have to get dual platforms now, since I haven't been able to find anything useful for the Mac. ErikG

Great - please do. Thanks Gary, Paul, ErikG, and Nomad. Makes it fun to add something. Let's see... what's next ![]() Oh I should also add that vbcode (so you can create links) and URL autolinking will be added to the gallery comments section within the next 2 weeks. The gallery database/structure will remain the same but they're coming out with a php version of the base script which adds a few features (currently in beta 5) and I'll be upgrading to this as soon as it comes out. I could hack the features in now, but no sense reinventing the wheel since the ETA is so close. And please feel free to add images – everything will be carried into the php version. You’ll just notice some new functions and formatting appearing in a couple weeks, mainly to the comments section. Thanks again everybody!

Quick Question... does what gets posted into one of the sections automatically get added to that members gallery?

Rhino on a Mac... Well it should work, and I suppose it does (in a way). At the moment I use Prosurf for hulldesign testing on the Mac w Virtual PC but the drawing of the 3D models are painfully slow so I've assumed I need a bigger / better computer to be able to handle Rhinos rendering and stuff. Also I'm the kind of guy that just hates waiting for a computer to do any task. As the performance suffers on the Mac since it needs to run two operating sytems at once and emulating the PC's hardware it takes a lot of power. ErikG

Thanks Jeff Eric - Rhino ran just great on my 64mb 700mHz machine (I just chucked some more RAM in to speed up the Flamingo renderingas the model is now a fair size - I hate waiting too!) - nothing else serious I tried did. - have you downloaded the Rhino demo and tried it? Paul

Hi Paul Well I hadn't but I did tonight, and so far no major problems. The only issues is that I don't have a 2-button mouse and both ctrl and shift is used in Rhino... I'm running it on a 500Mhz G3 and it works ok, even though rendering is a bit slow... I'm still going through the tutorials though. Well there is prejudice for you... Erik

Since I have a rather large investment in Macintosh computers ... I would like to use these as I move into CAD. Have those of you using Rhino/Flamingo through virtual PC compared this with TouchCAD/Artlantis (or other rendering program)? I must say that TouchCAD looks pretty nice to me. For that matter, has anyone (PC user) seriously tried to compare TouchCAD and Rhino... since TouchCAD is also available for PC. Such a comparison from actual users would be very imformative. Robert
