| Vacuum Infusion Wf what kind of fibre weight fractions can be expected from CSM and WR using vacuum infusion and polyester resin? |

| The key to resin infusion processes are the process vacuum. I use to work for a company doing commerical research, so I have quite a bit of practical experience. Ideally it would be nice to have a perfect vacuum. However if your a good bagger, on a large boats you may pull 50mb (absolute). I wouldn't infuse something big without a good vacuum. Don't forget, infusing on warm high pressure days are good for high Vf. I would estimate somewhere in the region of 45-60% Vf. Wovens and randon mats are poor for high Vf due to there structure. Make a trial laminate, as you can estimate Vf. By measuring weights of fabric to resin etc. Or you the equation Vf = number of layers * Areal weight/Density of fabric * thickness. Or do a burn off test. I hope this helps Shaun |
