Ultra-lite construction ideas???

Here's alittle question for all you boatbuilders out there. I am design an ultra-lite 27ft sailboat. The problem is I don't know that much about the latest composite methods out there.

The problem is this: I need to build a 27ft hull, deck and internals that tip the scale at approx. 300 Lbs. Now tell me is this achievable? The surface area of the hull is 244 sq. ft. and the deck 150 sq. ft.

I am open to any sort of ideas as this is just a design project idea. I see other sailboats such as the JS9000 and sierra 26 that have made very light hulls but I don't know what they do.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Cheers

You need to specify more closely. If the sailboat can make do with 100 sq.ft. of sail and a completely bare interior, it is possible. If you are planning on a more conventional boat, I don't think so.

A skin on frame hull is very light. Can you post some of the dimensions of the framing?

I colleague of mine is in the process of building a 10m cat. Anyway one of the hulls is made from prepreg. It only ways 80 kilos. However due to the lengthly layup procedure, we resin infused the other hull of the cat. That weight 100kilos. for its strength and size its super light. The key is to think coring. We used honeycomb on the prepreg half, and balsa on there other half.
