is tree sap on older gel-coat a big problem?

would a good coating of sap on this boat devalue it any more than an afternoon's worth of elbow grease?

How to clean a couple years of sap off the gel-coat without damage?

sap will brittle after a while.

Maas Aero Rowing Scull - As is! - $500 (san rafael)

Date: 2009-12-16, 4:46PM PST

Boat is well used but has may miles left. Has been sitting in the yard and got pine sap dripped on it, which is why the bargain price. Otherwise fully functional. I have some parts which need to be put on it, a new skeg and new oar lock collars for the oars. Comes with two good lightweight oars. Perfect set up for someone new or looking for a workout set up for the bay.
Same color scheme as the photo below.

Manufacterer's Description:

This is a great all around shell.

Hot water, low pressure. Kärcher!

The more solid parts: rug with turpentine, soon rinse with soap water.

Richard

Use a heavy duty cleaner, like "Spray 9" or other. Mineral spirits or turps might spank it, though gasoline will probably wipe it right off. Of course get the area rinsed quickly after.

Kärcher is the manufacturer of the most common pressurized, hot water units known on earth.

Good idea Richard, but I was thinking why not just sail it off... Prolonged exposure to water may well dissolve it.

At the end, water will dissolve everything, you are right Fanie.

And Paul:

I did not say any sort of solvents and agents! Plain, real Turpentine, was my recommendation.

Karcher is great but don't let nozzle get too close to finish or it will cut like a knife.

Turpentine dries slowly and is works well. There is a general adhesive remover by 3M that also works well
