| Transom door Hello, again! I am in the process of replacing my transom due to rot below the waterline. While in the midst of all this mess, I was thinking about what a good time it would be to install a transom door. The deck is 12 inches above the waterline. The transom is made of 3/4 plywood and 1/4 FRP on each side. I'm wondering, if by doing this, will I weaken the transom too much? Is there anyway to reinforce the transom below the deck, epoxy in a beam of sorts? Or, should I beef up the thickness of the transom while I have the outside 'skin' off. Kinda like doubling or tripling the thickness, (and lengthening the boat). If 'm going to do it, now is the time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Mark

| when u replace a transom do not remove the outside skin it may seem the best way to go. remove from the inside it may seem hard to do , but u dont want to mess around with the outside this is structual, the inside is just a skin , by removing the outside u will lose the shape of the hull and will have to square it up. also check the stringers if the transom has rot good chance the stringers are to |

| If you have to rebuild everything , why not build it HINGED to operate like a pickup truck tailgate? Nice and easy to use as a dink dock when at anchor. FAST FRED |
