| Checking Transom Another way to check the transom core is to remove a piece of hardware that bolts all the way through, like a swim platform bracket, etc. The lower on the transom the better. Poke around the walls of the hole with a small screwdriver and a flashlight. If you turn up any rotten or wet wood it may may indicate a soft transom. Make sure you re-seal the hardware properly. To know for sure you could drill some strategic core samples about 1/2" deep from inside the boat (don't forget to fill them back in with epoxy). Just some thoughts. |
