| Resin Application Trying to build a surk kayak. Once I have prepared the surface of the mold. When it comes time to apply the first layer of fiberglass, is it best to wet the mold surface with resin and then work in the fiberglass? Or should I lay the glass and then wet the new glass with resin. Poly or Epoxy? |

| It normally works better to wet the surface first, it's easier to work the glass down into the resin than the resin down into the glass. If you wet the glass after putting it in place it's more common for air to be trapped near the mold surface. |

| I typically wet the mold, but I often wet both sides of the mat on a wetout table, too. (Not recommended for newbies.) Roll the 'glass out, then dribble a bit of additional resin on dry spots. Use a cheap paint roller as your last step to sop up excess resin. Buy 'em at a dollar store and just toss them when you've sopped up your resin. Dry 'glass against a dry mold just makes it take longer for resin to sneak in between mold and 'glass. |

| wet out your mold, stick your glass on, start from the top and work down,,wetting out your glass,,,,having your mold wet first helps hold it for ya,,and ensures that the glass is wet thoroughly. then roll out your air. basically "what they said" hehe ![]() ![]()
