| Mitch, simply put, polyester just doesn't do anything nearly as well as epoxy does. This is a material that's best suited in molds, under controlled conditions, applied against itself and nothing else. Attempting to save money by using a resin other then epoxy is false economy. The polyesters don't stick to wood very well, they absorb moisture, they're not very strong, have to be applied thickly to offer strength, which makes it heavy, etc., etc., etc. If you're building a 'glass boat in a mold or with a one off method, then one of the polyesters is an option. If on the other hand, you're looking to use polyester in place of epoxy on a wooden build, you'll be sadly disappointed. |
