Talc sucks up water like a sponge, its a component of gel coat and/or putty that is reduced or eliminated when the product is designed for use underwater. The correct polyesters used under water will survive just fine, absorbing water, and having problems with absorbed water are two different things. Everything absorbs it and to some extent is broken down by it, preventing having problems with it is where choosing the correct formula comes into play.
