My mold is nearly ready

Hello group!

I'm nearly finished with my mold (built of scrap countertop) for replacement sailboat pocket liner. I have csm and cloth, will get carnuba wax and resin soon. I plan on not using gelcoat. Is a bristle type paintbrush the right tool for applying resin to the mold and fiberglass? Should I lay the mat or cloth over the mold, then saturate it? Is there a roller tool for pressing laminations together?


This is a one time project: The mold is 48 inches long, 7 inches high, 6 inches deep in the shape of a rectangular sold that is open on two adjacent sides

Sorry for asking such elementary questions, but I've never really done this before. I suppose I could lay up a practice panel.

Is latex caulk acceptable for forming small fillets in a mold? Posters have recommended modeling clay - I assume they refer to clay that hardens. Thanks in advance, Dark.

use gel coat even if its clear your going to get pinholes trust me, if u chose not to gel because you are going to paint , use a sanding gelcoat, and use fillet wax for the corners, if u want a quick and cheap way get some scotch tape and tape the corners with a little pratce u will get a good round effect, but do this after you have waxed the wax, if you wax over tape the wax will lift the tape and dont worry the tape will wash of the part with a little acetone
