| gelcoat on the mold? Huh? I thought you put the gelcoat as the last and final coat? Is there a different way of doing that? |

| The mold will need a mold release agent, which is typically a mold release wax. If the mold is brand new, I typically would put on approximately eight coats of wax, followed by a fine mist coat of poly vinyl alcohol (pva). If the mold had been used and broken in, all you should need is one coat of wax. The boat is built from the outside in, so that is why gelcoat is the first layer in the mold. |
