| How many layers of carbon fiber For a kayak? Hey if I build a Carbon Kayak, about how many layers thick will it need to be if I'm using like 5-7 oz fabric psy and epoxy 4? What about if it was fiberglass? I also hear that unwoven carbon is the strongest like roving/thread it is also the cheapest way to buy it per lb what if I laid strands and strands of roving inbetween layers is that a good idea? |

| This question is like asking how high is up, or how deep is wet. The questions isn't answerable since there isn't enough information to know what you are using it for. Laminate schedule is driven by loads, loads are driven by usage and size. And a ggod laminate schedule will use different weights and thicknesses of glass or epoxy in different areas of the hull depending on expected load paths in that area. There is no one size fits all answer, other than to just overbuild it to be sure. As for using carbon filament... Go buy a spool of fishing line, and cover your kitchen table with 5 foot pieces of it. Keeping the fibers from crossing each other, overlapping, and having no space in between them. Once you get this down do the same thing but with a salad bown on the table. Again cover the entire table now with the salad bowl exactly one layer of thread deep, with no spaces or overlaps. When you get done you will understand why only machinery works with filaments.

| I saw something long ago written by high modulus in NZ about a carbon fibre layup , if you have the skills you could use only 2 layers ,1 either side of a 1 mm coremat type product. If you have not already bought woven carbon there are many other ways you could do it also. |
