The polyester resin was designed for this type of a project, a trial project to see if the design works, many may be made before a final design is established, using epoxy and expensive foam to make mock ups or throw away parts is a waste of money. Epoxy will be a better choice for production in most cases, at least in this application, but for other items the polyester may work well in production.

Plugs are also made this way, low cost foam and easy to work with polyester resin allows for affordable and fast tooling options.
