fiber glass roll cutting

old question..
Any new system or trick to cut full roll of fiberglass ?
was using tape and wood saw before, was ok but not really clean cut...
have a 4 feet roll of biax 600grm to cut in 4 inch tape..

The local guys wrap a poly sheet around a roll of biax cloth, then tape the poly sheet very tight onto the Biax roll, then cut off with a band saw. Seems to work well...If I see the guys this week I will ask what type of band saw blade and what band saw speed they find best for cutting.

The right way is with a roll slitter, any other method will usually produce pretty rough results.

easy to buy what you want when you want it !!
Band saw works !! sort of !! Take the blade out and turn it round slow but dosent jump and bite . wrap the roll really tight with shrink wrap and roll the roll across the table of the saw not push !!.
Mind you fingers they dont grow back if you cut them off !!!
How will you pick your nose again if they are missing ??

next time will try to order pre-cuts tape rolls..!!.

This won't work for cutting through an entire roll but I borrowed my wifes' FISCARS rotary cutter from her sewing box (it works just like a pizza cutter).
This gave perfect results and I was able to cut all the tape and shapes I needed with almost no fraying edges.
If the surface below the cloth has any irregularities the cutter will miss spots so use piece of smooth hardboard under the cloth and guide it with a metal straightedge on top. I even made some freehand cuts right on the hull. If I had to cut cloth on a regular basis this tool would stay in my toolbox.
The blades are replaceable too.

Speaking of cloth cutting, last week I needed to cut some lightweight glass fabric with a rotary cutter. Naturally you need a nice smooth surface to cut on so I zipped over to the shipyard garbage dumpster then dove in to search for a suitable clean piece of plywood. No luck , but as I was walking thru the yard I noticed an office being re decorated with a pile of good size pieces of wall board. I grabbed a slice as a cutting surface. GREAT..the cardboard surface is very smooth so it wont snag the glass fabric and has the perfect density to oppose the rotary cutter.

I find the rotary pizza cutter type to work better than anything else, the glass doesn't move away from the cut as with any type of shearing cutter, edges are clean, and you can make very precise cuts. (I guess that was just my way of agreeing with the two before me..)
