Engine hatch repair

Hello All,

I have a 21.5' Bayliner Ciera. The engine hatch 3'x5' is seperating from the reinforcement wood fiberglassed to the bottom of it. Also I replaced my intake manifold and the Carb sits a little higher. My plan to fix this goes like this.....

I want to remove the old wood from the bottom of the hatch, install a round access hatch in the middle big enough to accomidate the now higher flame arrestor. Adhere a piece of plywood (I'll cut a hole in the middle for the hatch) with some 2x2s attached to the bottom of the plywood for added reinforcement. Glass it all in to encapsulate it all to the bottom of the hatch.

The only problem is I've never done any fiberglass work before. (at least none that had to be dependable) Any ideas or suggestions on how I should adhere to the hatch bottom or what the right fiberglass materials / techniques I should use? I also need ideas on how to release the old wood framework from the hatch. Not all of it has let go.

Thanks!
rr

Take all the pieces to a place or person who gets it done right the first time.
