Cost Question

Anyone have a solid cost estimate per square foot or meter to lay up fiberglass on a mold?

That would depend entirely on the type of glass and resin being used. Without specifics I dont think such a solid estimate is possible

Fibreglass tesin costs about $5 /litre and the cloth is basically twice that, so a metre built will be about $15/metre square per layer. Depending on the area and the thickness you can work it out from that.

Can you explain that more?

Is your glass cloth 10 $ per m2??

......correct......$5 for resin....10$ for glass...together they are about $15/ metre square.

One liter of resin will be one metre square if it is 1 mm thick.

...the resin to glass ratio will be about 50% till you get better at it.

Yes

go to the online shop of your choosen supplier and start calculating.

The reinforcement weight per area (sq ft. or mē) is almost always equivalent to the resin needed to saturate it in a (good) 50% / 50% layup.
A common hand layup, done by a novice rarely comes to that ratio. More likely 60% resin 40% glass is the result. Make your calc.s accordingly.

So, a 5$ mē glass of 200 gram mē and 200 gram of the resin (price per Kg ,given 10$), = 5$ + 2$= 7$, that is the price for a good 50/50 layup.

Those prices are just to make the calculation easy! I can buy a Kg of poly resin at a fraction of that and some glass fabric at 1$ mē.

Regards
Richard

For CSM it is different: A 450 grams CSM will eat 1 kg of resin, and will be 1 mm thick.

CSM is about 3 euro / kg (so 1,35 / m2) and poly resin about 3 euro / kg as well.

Which make a CSM laminate about 4,5 euro per kg.

In a production environment, all consumables cost roughly the same as the resin used (gloves, brushes, rollers, etc etc)

As Apex says, go find the price of materials in your area. Figure out your layup schedule and use this chart fro Ken Hankinson's "Fiberglass Boatbuilding For Ameteurs" available at Glen-L, for a ballpark idea.
