Converting a closed bow to center console

Hello again. I've read the existing threads regarding converting a dual console to a center console and am thinking about doing this to my 1969 Cobia 17' closed bow. I'll probably be fabricating the console myself since there is limited room and I havn't seen anything aftermarket that looks to be narrow enough to allow me to walk past it.

The question that I have not seen answered in any other threads I've read is whether or not cutting out the deck and consoles will weaken the hull??
