Another idea.

West Laminating epoxy to wet out thoroughly both wood surfaces to be mated. If wood sucks in resin continue to wet out. The time is not so much of an issue here as the resin can start to go off and bond well even beyond green stage giving more than enough time to perform the work and wet out porous wood surface.

Mix a batch of peanut butter consistency cotton flox and epoxy and use this as adhesive applying to both sides adequate amount so excess will be squeezed out after clamping. This will ensure all voids have been filled. If you expect any air entrapment make some holes that will vent air pockets during clamping. Here time becomes an issue so work adhesive mixture within its working time limit. Wood flour may be substituted for cotton flox with probably some decrease in adhesive strength. Adding fumed silica like cab o sil or HDK will smooth things out and prevent adhesive running on vertical surfaces but weaken the mixture so use sparingly.

The bond produced should be superior to the bonds of wood veneer in the plywood and therefore adequate ensuring aa unbroken bond line of the mated surfaces. The cotton flox will also prevent locally adhesive starved surfaces due to over clamping as the flox will act as a scrim.

All I read was good info. Here is a trick I was taught years ago. Can't say its better but nerver had it fail. Before you apply your mat and clamp it togeather, do this to the wood in as cool of spot as you can find. Lay all your wood pieces all out. Mix fiberglass as normal to coat them but real lite on the heat for a long cure time. Then use thinner in the glass mix to make it like water. Starting coating the wood and keep coating it till no more soaks in. Alot will soak in. Let cure. After matting and pressing togeather you will have a bond that has penatrated the wood. Pull that apart. Good luck.
