Balsa filler

On a male mold layup, I have sanded the balsa core to fair. What is your favorite filler to use to "fill in the cracks" before glassing the outer hull? Would you consider laying the glass on a wet epoxy/filler? (I think that would be difficult)
Thanks,
Rob

If you fill the cracks with epoxy and silica filler and laminate while it is still soft, you can skip sanding.
