    stripes

Hey James, I read in some previous post (your's mostly) That you would sometimes tape first then sand up to your tape. I don't think I have that kind of control. Did I miss something? (I think the discussion was about a boot stripe).

    ya,,i think,,no,,,well maybe,,,what?,,,hehe ;)
startin off from old gel,,i tape off the deck,,sand up to my tape,,primer,,take tape off,,<only do if someone else is paying for the tape,,,then i sand the area,,(bout 3" wider then ya stripe), then tape my stripe,,shoot the stripe,,untape stripe,,and retape,,leave a pubic hair width of stripe paint showing,,sand ya tape line,,then ya DA sanding,,cover your stripe, and shoot the hull color,,,,,now i prob will edit next time i read this after i see what i mixed up,,( wind blowing 60mph,,and sand feels like needles,,so i taking rest day off hehe ;) )
edit 1,,,,,call me Jim,,,i feel like my mommy is scolding me,,hahaha ;)

    Now I'm confused

Are you saying that you would paint the stripe first?

cause I would think of the stripe as a finishing touch type detail????

It's 70 degrees here. perfect day sun, no wind, blue sky too bad it won't last. cold and raw tomorrow high near 45 ain't we lucky?

o.k.,,,instead of edit,,,,when ya do the sanding next to tape on the top of the stripe(talking right handies heh) you can use your right hand, starting on ya starboard side,,and fold ya da paper in half,,use your "pinky" finger, have ya pinky half on paper, half on tape,,and with about 15 minutes of practice,,its fast and easy,,but be SURE not ta hit ya tape,, if ya do, and gouge the tape,,cut it out and replace tape,,,,,need to REALLY stress to press ya edges down,,,20 times hehe ;)

I have a tendency to let out more info than is needed--

Nice work though. I'm the nut cracker in the forum, because my work is all roll and tip. I'm due east of you on the opp. coast. Nice to have a newbie to help out with questions. Up until now it seems that Jim was fielding all the spray questions and I got all the other amateurs like myself.
