gps solder

I installed a garmin gps. For a friend and the book said solder and heat shrink the connection but we are talking about very light loads

I also seam to understand the concept of the crimp of marine wire can some one tell me the best brand of crimps and crimper to buy I was one of the crimp and solder with heat shrink and silicone clan but want to keep up

Can I wire my own boat or do I have to use marine electrician

I would like to thank all for their input have learned much from this forum
