| Superyacht Wiring Schematic Hi folks, Does anyone have a generic wiring schematic suitable for a 120 foot private vessel. It is an exploration motoryacht we are building, and I would like the oportunity to compare my ideas with others that have already been built. I have searched many site but found nothing suitable, only small recreational craft drawings. Thanks

| What is the base voltage ? Some use 12V, others prefer to run a generator all the time and use 230V. Big drawing on paper of each layer. Mark all the groceries where you want to have them situated. This way you can identify power hungry stuff and also plan the wiring distribution better. I very much doubt if a 'standard' diagram exist, each would be unique for each boat, unless you are duplicating. I also like the idea of different facets having their own power so that ie instruments have their own supply and is not affected by other electrical stuff. If a power problem emerges you can always backup from another system. Sharing wiring between appliances is not always a good thing... you don't want the lights to konk out each time you winch the anchor in But then you know that.

| Fanie, I have built and wired many boats, so understand the basic principles well thanks. What I am looking for is the schematics of a 120 foot boat that has recently been built so that i can compare my system to others on the market. I plan to run a port and stb buss, bridging from each, similar to how they now do CAN-BUS systems, but without the controllers. I have also looked at Capi2 BUS, but am not yet convinced I want the vessel controlled by a computer. We all have our own little quirks when it comes to total power sytems, i would like to see what others are doing in their little worlds as compared to mine. The boat will be wired 240AC single phase, gensets will be 3 phase and power distribution to balance the phases and consumptions. Shore power to be 3 phase at 30A each phase, so that where there is no 3 phase i can still pinch power on single phases. 12VDC will supply all other systems such as emergency lighting and low consumption night use syatems, starter to be decided yet as the main engine still has not been decided but looking at a MAK 20 series. (Air start).

| Best would probably be if you ask someone doing the same thing in person. Interesting you mention the can bus without the processors. Air start ? You pump the thing up with a bicycle pump to get the first kick... what happened to pull start... when I was your age... ![]()

| I guess we can put a pull start on it, but the reduction ratio may make the rope about 5 metres long. Sort of run off with it eh We will drop by one day and you can try it.

| You might want to contact this guy.... Alden Trull.... http://www.midcoast.com/~aft/index2.html He's got some schematics on his site as examples of his work. I wouldn't count on any of them being what you need but I don't think there's any way you'll find anything better. His rates are reasonable and his work top rate (as far as I can see).

| Thanks KnottyBuoys, I have seen those before, basically what I have done myself already, i was hoping to find one suitable for a commercial 120 footer that I can verify what I have already done is in fact not too bad, I am trying to cover all my bases and not forget something.......

| Well, as you probably noticed the electric / electronics of a boat is always suckling the hind teat. Haven't seen anyone put up new boat pictures and you look at the electronic circuits eh Maybe one should do it, I bet it would be fun, get everyone off the hull shape and breaking waves stuff Get them into amps and flashing leds How many knots does electricity flow at ?

| Sorry Lubby, I was going to make a point but as I posted a hailstorm hit us and power went off. Real fun, had to get the hail off the roof with toes freezing. Amazing how much trouble a bit of ice can cause. The direction it came from made a nice wall to guide the melting ice's water streight into the kitchen ![]() Electronics / electrics is part of everything, I'm amazed that isn't discussed more. Normally it's just the guys wanting to run a household off his 60AH deep cycle and 3A solar ![]()
