I couldn't disagree with Tom more.

I would encourage anyone looking for a job in the industry to at least have fundamental mechanical drawing skills. Yes, the kind you learn in the local community college. In the real world you will spend an awful lot of time drawing mechanical parts that will be manufactured in a machine shop to fit other mechanical parts or the boat structure. Some of the mechanical drafting skills I've seen from Westlawn students are pretty sad. (No experience with YDS students). No clue how to dimension a part or how tolerances work (and stack up) or even the capabilities of a machine shop.

There is a lot more to yacht design then plans and profiles.
