New Naval Architecture Society-Scotland

Looking for help/advice/contacts in the marine industry to help the society I am president of, hit the ground running.

The Strathclyde University Naval Architecture Society was formed a few months ago, and is now supported and recognised by the Royal Institute of Naval Architects. Our aim is to let university students find out more about the practical side of their course, showing them early on what the options are in the marine industry. This includes tours to places members wouldn't be able to get into individually (for example, we organised a tour to BAE Shipyards in Glasgow) showing the practical side of Naval Architecture. Opportunities for work experience/placements in companies are needed to send members to, and also socially SUNAS provides events to promote relations within the Naval Architecture department.

If you know of any useful contacts in our area, have any tips on running a successful society, or would you are a someone who would like to show their support, any comments would be really appreciated.

Also one of the plans we have for next year is to have an amateur boat building competition to then sail the finished product down the Union Canal in Scotland. Any ideas on this? One idea I really liked was the link below, though we are looking to make something better designed and more durable than these...
