looking for a teacher

I am posting this hoping that someone will be able to help me. I would love to be able to attend one of the many boat building schools that I have found but as a father of three with a full time job this is not a reality for me. I am hoping that someone can direct me to somebody in the Jacksonville area that will allow me to apprentice/learn/sweep the shop floor or whatever on my off time. I am 28 years old and active duty in the Navy so my schedule is unpredictable. Is there anyone who can help me?

Yes I have I guess I am not quite sure what I am looking for. As far as schools there are none in the area. I will do a little more looking in the goergia area. Thanks for the help.

I have a list of boatbuilding schools on my web site at http://newboatbuilders.com/pages/links.html. I checked and I don't think any of them are in Florida. However you might want to check with the Florida Maritime Museum. 4415 119th Street West

As for boat builders there are probably a lot in the Jacksonville area. Go here. http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_database.htm Type Jacksonville in the city field and select Florida and you will get five pages of boatbuilders in the area. Some of these are out of business so check carefully. Or if you want a printed list, e-mail Richard.A.Blackman@uscg.mil and he will e-mail you a list of the active boatbuilders. Tell him you want active only.

It may take about a week because he is at the Miami Boat Show this week.
