Keel History

Hello,
I would like to know, if someone has any idea, what the first keel was.
What design it followed, on what boat it was set up, when, why...
Any information relating to this would help me greatly to write my Extended Essay.

Thank you very much
Pierre Badin

I think it would be hard to nail down any specific development path. Keels have evolved along with designs over all the years we have been building boats. The development ran parrallel in different countries. The curreent fin keel grew out of the full keel which grew out extended keelsons in deep bodied craft.
