    From David Le Pelley:

"The High Performance Yacht Design Committee is pleased to announce that HPYD5 will take place in Auckland, NZ as part of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in early March 2015.

Papers are invited on all topics relating to the design of high performance power and sailing yachts, including:
    - structural design and analysis
    - performance prediction
    - wind tunnel and towing tank testing
    - computational methods
    - hull and appendage design
    - regulations and rating rules

An exciting new development is that an agreement has been reached with SNAME (Chesapeake) and Ecole Navale (Innov’Sail) to provide a coordinated rolling 3 year programme of high quality yacht technical conferences.

Abstracts are due 1st July and final papers are due 1st October. All papers are reviewed by an international technical panel. See www.hpyd.org.nz for more details.

To unsubscribe, or for more information, please email info@hpyd.org.nz

    Abstract submission extended - From Dr. LePelley;

    "Dear colleagues,

We have already had over 30 abstracts submitted on a wide range of topics.

We recognise that this is a busy time for many so would like to extend the abstract submission deadline until Friday 18th July. After this date the technical committee will review all of the abstracts and communicate with authors.

If there are other people you work with who have done something interesting please try to persuade them to submit an abstract!

We look forward to seeing you all in March 2015.

Please send abstracts to info@hpyd.org.nz. Final papers are due on 1st October.

    Kind regards,

    David Le Pelley
    HPYD5 Committee"

The organising committee is pleased to announce the finalised dates of the HYPD5 conference in Auckland, New Zealand. The conference will take place during the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Auckland. In order for delegates to see as much of the action as possible, the conference will take place on 10th – 12th March 2015. Additionally, there will be a welcoming function on the evening of 9th March to which you are all warmly invited.

The venue will be central to the Stopover hub and the boats. Once again, we expect to hold a range of exciting social events. A full programme will be released later in the year.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us – info@hpyd.org.nz

As a bit of background, I understand that the plan is to have HPYD, Chesapeake Sailing Yacht Symposium and one other sailing yacht technology conference (I forget which one) on a three year cycle in the future, so there will be an international sailing technology event every year, either in Auckland, Annapolis or Europe.

I have co-written papers at the first two HPYDs and the other papers were certainly very good - I wish I could have been the author who went.

    • If you would like to receive a printed copy of the proceedings remember to order them in advance (complimentary copy for authors).

    • There will be a session on Monday evening open to the public where Knut Frostad will talk about the design of the VO65 and the evolution of the Volvo Ocean Race. HPYD5 delegates may attend this event without further registration.

    • The conference dinner will be held at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Our guest speaker will be Tom Schnakenberg.

    • Optional industry tours will be held on Thursday 12th March. These will allow delegates to visit the facilities of Core Builders Composites, Southern Spars and the University of Auckland. Register for these free of charge when completing your conference registration. More details will follow.

The conference will be held in the fabulous Marine Events Centre, shown below. The yachts will be just outside the window, which may make it hard to concentrate but will allow a full integration between theory and practice. Don’t miss out – register now here <http://www.hpyd.org.nz/registration.aspx> !
