Could you answer for may question.

How many of you, who live from boat/yacht design/build, are diploma engineers, naval architects, marine engineers, etc, and how many not?????

pls, add also info if you can and wish to, from what country you are and if diploma is need it there for work or not.

What is it that you want to do? Design? Build? Repair?

What type of work do you want to do? There can be big skill differences from one boat builder to the next. A job doing fine woodwork can be a lot harder to get than a production fiberglass builder.

What type of company do you want to work for? What type of boats do you want to work on? Small boats, large boats, yachts, ships...

I have an Associates Degree in Traditional Wooden Boatbuilding.
I am Certified by Lincoln Electric as a welder and I have a certificate in metal boat design and construction.

I have a degree in mechanical engineering specializing in naval architecture, some post grad work in FEA, and am licensed in mechanical engineering and in naval architecture/marine engineering.

I have worked on smaller commercial and military vessels most of my career, in a variety of organizations with occasional recreational boat work.

I have an A.A.S. in Industrial Design and working on my B.F.A. in Studio Art. I have built everything from 16' runabouts and fishing boats to 75' motor yachts. I work at a Naval Architecture firm modeling up to 220' supply boats and Tugs. I have worked as a senior designer for both Stratos and Champion boats.

The degree you need depends on what you want to do and who you want to do it for.
