| How easy is it to intern? Since I am looking for a Grad School, I would like to find an internship/apprenticeship in the area where I chose a school. How easy has it been for you guys to pick up something like this? Is there a demand? |

| Some schools offer an asistancship, where you work/research for the school in the field of your choosing. exp. at stevens you can work in the Tank. I went to a co-op school, undergrad and had 3 internships in between classes. I didnt have to worry about taking classes at the same time so i could intern anywhere in the world basically. Did themin NY, NJ and FL. I didn't find it too difficult to find internships, if you look long enough. Since my school had 0 jobs from marine designers or boat builders, it took months of calling and emailing and tracking leads. People in this industry are very friendly and may help you find what you need if they dont offer it. Finding a position close to the school will be the most difficult if you want to be in classes at the same time. Might have to do a lot of long commuting |

| internships The september edition of Yachting Monthly contains an article about how horribly difficult it is to find placement for NA students. Quote:

| internships I found it relatively easy to find an internship with a major powerboat brand for last summer between my sophomore and junior years. I'm sure you will be even more desirable since you have additional experience. It took a few phone calls and a couple weeks of waiting for replies from emails, but I think you will find work as long as you are patient and persistant. I'd do some research online about different companies near where you are going and then contact them and ask for the right person to talk to about an internship.

| If it's anything like the aviation industry, finding an internship isn't too difficult. Everybody loves free labor. However, getting them to cough up a couple of bucks can present more of a challenge and then getting hired on is another story altogether. If that's your desired path, you'd better make that internship is the most miserable time of your life, because if you aren't busting your balls and proving yourself on a daily basis, they will be able to find a hundred people with more experience than you when it comes time to hire.

| I had a great experience.. and I was paid pretty well too. I don't think you will have a problem finding at least a minimum wage paying internship.

| Usually the internship period is in breaks between semesters or the summer. Trying to find an opportunity close enough to where you are going to school, that is also willing to work around your class schedule could be challenging. If you go into the experience remembering that you are in it to learn, and all you really have to offer is free labor, internships can be a great experience. I would recommend you tap into the alumni network where you are a student to find a good opportunity. Sometimes that can open doors that may otherwise be closed to you. |
