I am looking for something up to 70 feet, not ships.

I have it. It is a simple and not too technical guide for home boatbuilders. You won't find, for example, any reference to scantling rules or problems related to detailed metal framework construction like stress-relieving notches, design for fatigue or similar issues.

It is essentially a guide for construction and basic maintainance of Bruce Robert's boats, but which can be applied to other metal boats too - hence the utility of the book. The above missing details are supposed to be contained in the plans you have previously purchased from B.R.. The book comes with a CD containing the study plans of several of his boats.

If you are a novice and need a generic introductory guide to metal boats' construction and maintainance, then it is a good read. If you need something more detailed and scientific, than it's not deep enough. Ad Hoc's posts on metal constructions in this forum often contain more precious info about design details according to materials science and classification rules.

For an engineering approach to metal ships design, I can suggest you "Design of Ship Hull Structures - A Practical Guide for Engineers" by Okumoto, Takeda et al.

The elements of boat strength by Gerr has good information on metal boats too.

I am looking more at building techniques than design. I will probably look at buying a design and maybe modify with help of the designer. I am looking more for a practical building guide.
