Apprenticeships?

I've been giving a lot of thought to this idea, and it seems like the best way for me to get into the boat industry is to apprentice as a boatbuilder while simultaneously taking Westlawn courses.

But I wonder if the apprenticeship concept is considered somewhat archaic by most boat builders. I think it's a fine way to get cheap labor for the employer, and hands on education for the employee.

Have you guys heard of any sailboat builders offering apprenticeships?

I'm very familiar with NN, Va....seeing as how I grew up there. Not exactly the type of outfit I'm looking for since battleships and aircraft carriers are a far cry from sailboats.
