Orphanedcowboy-

Glad I could help. I do like the Duropower unit but the $50 I paid for a 43cc scooter motor was just too good to pass up. Besides, the Duropower unit does not have electric start or a charging system like mine! No rotator cuff damage and power for running lights, what could be better!

It already has been invented, it's called a Whippella, it's from down under, you should be able to find more info on the process.

Are you talking about a safety tether/engine kill switch?

WOW!!!! I haven't been on here in a while, everyone is coming up with some great ideas. I will be posting a few pics of my own. I got too frustrated trying to get a motor that worked so I built my own layout boat instead.

After building my boat and doing a bit of redesigning, I was excited to try out my new design but was disappointed with the results and the fact that water patrol pulled me over, sited me for not having my boat registered with the state of Missouri, not having a fire extinguisher aboard, and not having a license on my motor that didn't work very well. All this after being in the water for 3 min with my newly made layout boat!

So now the boat has been inspected, registered, and is legal. So now I just need to work out the kinks in my motor.

Yes. Im trying to to make a kill switch to stop the motor from running if i fall in the water so cut me up, i wont cos i have sea in my blood and have been sailing since i was born but it is for the scout group and some half whit could be a ***** with it and fall in and we dont want a legal case on our hands. those wippella things are bloody expensive. soooooo i might just take their idea and add it with mine and see what i come up with. i also need an idea on how to make a universal mount so it fits on my canoe manly junior and any other boat. any ideas are welcome!!!

For a universal mount, go back and read John O'neal's posts, he used a trolling motor bracket that is slick and fairly easy. I have one, but shipping to Aus, would not make it worth it.

It depends if your current "kill" switch is an open or closed circuit. Check it with an ohm meter to find out, then we will know how to proceed.

it doesnt have one, as yet. i was thinking that if i interupted the spark, it would kill the motor. it could be as simple as putting a piece of string around the lead to the spark plug, then tied to the drivers hand, so if and when the occupant fell out it would pull the lead to the plug, there for killing the motor. will it work and if it would help you understand me (as i may not make any sense) will you need any pictures?????????????????

It's not nearly that hard. The weed eaters already has one for turning it on and off so all you have to do is splice a male/female wire connecter in and tether one end to your wrist.
