Homemade Outboard Title in Texas?

Has any one on here from Texas titled thier homemade outboard? I was just looking through Texas Parks and Wildlife pages and I couldn't find any forms for a homemade outboard.

I'm gonna call the office tomorrow and talk to them about it but, has anyone ever titled any of these homemade outboards in any state? (particularly Texas)?

Alright well I guess no one had any experiences. I cant believe that no one has ever tried to title thier "homemade outboard".

I have been going back and forth with TPWD (texas parks and wildlife) for the past few weeks via e-mail. I finally got word that they would title a "homade outboard" but it would be an exception to thier rules.

They stated that an appointment would have to be set up with a local office so that a game warden could meet me and inspect the outboard. They would then have to issue it a motor identification number.

Before hand I would have to bring the recipts for all of the materials/parts for it to be considered for titling.

In texas all outboards and boats being powerd by any scource other than paddling has to be titled.

What a pain in the rear.

This has seriously put a damper on my drive to build one of these motors.

Until that last sentence, I thought you were talking about registration of a boat- a process which is, in most jurisdictions, a fairly straightforward matter. But now it sounds like you're trying to build the engine itself?

No I am refering to a home built "mud motor" or a "weed eater conversion". Several people have put up posts on how to build them but I was wondering if anyone had titled one. Not building an engine...

Something like this...

6hp honda 4 stroke horizontal engine attached to a shaft via a universal joint turning a prop to propell a boat.

Search mud motor if you are still confused.

Several makers include go devil, beaver tail, mud buddy, and bog hog motors.
I was talking about taking this concept and building one myself.

I did..The local gamewarden had to come out and decide whether on not it could be used. He was a jerk and wouldn't let me title it so I waited a while and used the serial numbers to my trolling moter and titled it as my trolling moter. I payed the taxes and never had a problem after that.

Did he say what his reasoning was for not allowing you to title it?
