One can say, there are two "largest".

The MAN B&W (14 K 98 MC-C) and the Wärtsilä (14 RTflex 96C-B), have about the same power output. Both are available with 110.000hp in 14cyl. setup.

Both have identical power per cyl. at 5720 kW in standard configuration.
But the MAN is bigger, with 2000 ltr. swept volume per cyl. vs 1800 ltr. for Wärtsilä.

That is a rather academic difference though.

Those are impressive numbers, Apex. And it looks like MAN is bigger indeed.

Anybody here knows how much time is necessary to start them up? I guess they take a very long time to arrive to working temperature...

These reactors are lightweight stuff compared.

To say nothing of being a pain in the @$$ "high chlorides" " 1 slow 1slow" primary and secondary operating bands and heaven for fend you drop your TLD in an inaccessible bilge pocket somehow or the 10 hour reactor start up procedure............ give me the wartsila

Emma Maersk has the 14cyl Wärtsilä installed.

Yes of course these engines live as long as the ship, or even longer. But they are serviced sure.

To augment speed the propeller drive shaft is fitted with two electric motors.

Five diesel generators with a combined power of 20,700 kW and one combined gas/steam turbine generator of 8,500 kW driven by the main engine exhaust are installed.

A waste heat recovery system is installed to optimise the use of the energy produced.
