VW electronics cheating the EPA

    its way simpler, all the other manufacturers had post combustion devices to meet the rule VW didnt and the industry couldnt understand how they did it, now they know.
    There are some blogs on the SAE site of engineers that worked on this 10 years ago.

    They did it to save maybe $1000 per car, that is going to get some VW guys close to being in prison in the USA

    the total VW diesel sales in the US are about .8% if their world wide sales.

    Hardly enough to rebuild a small car interior to carry a urea tank and pumps etc.

    The VW solution was a different cat converter that requires a squirt of raw diesel to keep the temps up enough.

    Not squirting raw diesel into the exhaust is the VW "crime!

    .8% of there sales has generated $18 billion fine plus
    What are they going to do to fix it?
    Buy them all back and scrap them?

    It will be interesting to see how this all works out. I bet it all gets handled privately and VW doesn't end up paying anything.

    I wonder if caterpillar will get looked at considering all the truck engine builders are using add blue or egr. Yet cat reckon they meet emissions with none of these systems.
