Volvo Penta MD 2040A circulation pump

I have a Volvo Penta MD 2040A Engine. The bearings on the (freshwater)circulation pump need changing. Volvo does not sell any repair kits, but just whole pumps at around 1000 USD. I do not see the point in blowing up money volvos exhaust for a part that must be much cheaper. As the engine block is Perkins. Does anyone know if there are any alternative parts that can be used?

Cheers

Simon

All Volvo parts are priced insanely .

Look in any good bearing catalog , or go to a guy that rebuilds electric motors and simply purchase bearings , you may have to machine to fit.

Far Far simpler is a good quality electric motor and pump , and to He++ with Volvo's in$anity.

Also try Perkins , they may have rebuild kits. OR even NAPA or the auto parts places for a local water pump rebuilder.

If you know the Perkins model number you might want to contact these folks. http://www.waterpumpautomobiles.com/product_perkin.htm or http://www.tracparts.com/Merchant2/m...ps/A-734932M91 or http://www.tadiesels.com/

I buy all my Univerasal Diesel parts at the local Kubota Tractor dealer, I have not used any of the above, just found them on Google...Perkins water pump

Just ordered an aftermarket pump for around 140 USD, delivery time 4 days. In the meantime the price for the originals volvo pump has gone up to 1000 USD. Delivery time 2 weeks
Anyone can tell me some good reasons to buy a Volvo engine. They buy all the parts, spray them volvo green and raise the price by a factor 8.
