Please info on Cummins 555

Hello everyone I'am in the process of buying a Pacemaker 33 with two 555 on it. At first sight they look two big for this boat also have a a friend with the same boat with two Yanmar 4 cilinders. People toll me this 555 are indestructible if you make the correct maintaince. This ones have 250 hours since rebuild last year. Where I can buy parts like heat exchangers, water pumps, gaskets etc for this motor. Any concern to check on them?. I;am affraid about the parts if anyone can help me with this or maybe 555 forums. Thanks again. Mario

Hi Mario
555s are heavy,(about 2400lbs each wet).
Are the engines turbos?
If not, then a lot of weight for not a lot of power.
Whether they are too heavy for a 33' would depend on the hull design, (beam, underwater profile, volume of displacement etc).
My research on parts when investigating purchase of a boat with VT 555m's suggests most are available via Cummins or aftermarket but can be quite expensive.

Marine Engines

Take a look at: http://www.yachtsurvey.com/engines.htm
and read some of the diesel articles. This guy has surveyed hundreds of boats and engines, and he knows the reality out there....
