Pintle for Coastal Towing

Yes I am very new to all this!

But also extremely interested, reason being I stay and work in the harbor most of the times.


I will be starting to build the Pintle in a few weeks, will be made of steel from a professional engineering place. It will be mainly used for Towing barges from anchorage to the harbor and for Coastal towing of Barges. Barges will range anywhere from 1000 to 2000 tonnes.

I have a few questions:

1. Is Pintle a good option for coastal Towing? Or is there something better?

2. Should I go for a twin Screw or Single Screw diesel Engine?

3. What BHP do you guys recommend for a twin as well as a Single Screw?

It doesn't explain much. If you are new at this, at the very least hire an experienced captain and get some advice.
