emm, hard to say where you got the description, but there are pumps called HSO, they are opposed impeller pumps.

Also HSO oil is Hemp Seed Oil, maybe you need to give us a few more descriptions.....

Hyspin Oil? Heavy silicone oil? Could be a lot of things, why not make a drawing of the lines that come and go from/to the tank and see what it serves.
Contact the previous owner/crew or get a sample analysed.

HSO

is hyperbal snake oil.

It provides the property to cover the gap between common snake oil and mineral oil in many applications.

One should use HSO exclusively in high end applications, it make the proof of quality easier (and faster).

One can buy it bulk (at any pump out station), for pennies.

It cannot destroy your engine, but it can destroy your belief! Well, thats the point where it becomes hyperbal......

When Im sailing around and must take on fuel, I frequently hear the term HSO for D2...diesel fuel from bunker agents. " Distillate 2" diesel fuel is often referred to as HSO high speed oil.

I guess if this is a tanker vessel she is hauling refined fuel or has machinery onboard that requires diesel, GASOIL.

You might check its refined composition if this is a technical question for school. Ive always thought it was just gasoil.
