I ran across this fascinating ( for me at least ) manual by the United Nations FAO. The focus is small scale commercial fishing, primarily in the developing world but the information contained is of value to anyone interested in efficient water transportation for whatever reason, and I hope stimulates some interesting discussion on a subject I personally feel is an important one.

I can't find any information on the Japanese lifting prop shaft system that has a UV joint outside the hull in the water; the prop can then be raised by pulling the propellor up from the transom.

I found a fishing boat for sale in Japan listed with this system , but no photo's.

    Anyone got any info?
