| Building Raw water filter with PVC pipe I need to two large flow water filters. I am not happy with typical bronze and glass units. They are expensive, corrode and other wise seem primitive. I have built rain water collection from pvc pipes and it looks like I could scale it up for raw water use. Advantage relatively cheap No Corrosion Horizontal mounting Multiple filtration possible. Disadvantage, no glass Easy cleanout, just remove screw in plug Horizontal mounting What do you guys think? |

| I assume the flow is lo velocity allowing the heavy sediment to naturally fall into the "Cleanout" section, and that there is no light undesirable stuff mixed in that raw water that would not settle down very quickly before flowing on to the "raw water out" end - in which case - looks good to me... My concern is with lighter contaminants like Irukandji (Carukua barnesi) a very tiny and very poisonous jellyfish found in Nth Queensland waters when SE trades blow them onto the beaches, or shallows... I do not want that sucked into my raw water intake - particularly the R.O. 'watermaker' system...

| Algae and sea grass are usually one of the worst culprits for clogging

| I know this is an old post revived ,but I must have missed it. The item shown in the original post is available in Spain from any outlet selling agricultural irrigation equipment. They are available in several sizes ,the last time I looked the 1" bore size was about 8 or 9 euros .They are made of a very tough plastic ,possibly glass filled nylon or similar. and most contain a fine mesh filter. As well as working on the suction side of a pump they will also work on the pressure side of a jet. I have never known one leak or fail . |
