What is best for 3d for designing a dinghy

Hello guys

You probably had this question a few times, but what is the best 3d and easy to use 3d design package for designing a dinghy.

Currently using Delftship, but this is more for Cargo ships.

I don't think that Delftship is more for cargo ships. All these CAD-softwares are really nothing but advanced pens. They can't do nothing that can't be done with a pen and a calculator - but they can do it a lot faster! However, the softeware and the pen have one important thing in common: The result doesn't depend on the them but on the user!

Well said - as people have mentioned there is rarely a 'best tool' for any job. Speed and efficiency are a thought though.

If it's just a small, one off dingy with no extremes of design you'll likely find most software offers a degree of technological-overkill. Do you need to spend 3000k+ on software just to design something to potter about in?

It depends as well what your needing to do. Though software is a often just a pen some pens do different things at the end of the day, Rhino on its own doesn't give you any hyrdostatics info, neither does solidworks or the like (but both eat up shell/structural modelling respectively) - Maxsurf and the like do an awful lot but don't give you much in the way of power once you've designed your hullform.

'Best' tools are likely the ones you have access to.

Thanks for all the inputs. I basically what to play around with designs and maybe build a few smaller dinghies. So I dont think spending a lot of money on software will be what I am aiming for. I am currently using delftship free version and find it very easy and i gives one a whole lot of different stats, info, etc. I would like to get the plat developments, which you cant get from the free version, might just opt to buy the full version at under $100.

If you guys have any other suggestions, please let me know

Use Freeships .......... you get most of the features of Deftships for free, and plate development , and you can save , and get offsets .

The best software for a dinghy is software that you already know how to use.

We have study plans for a dinghy on our website that you can download for free. They might help you plan out your approach.
