Want Xfoil, do I need Unix to use?

I want to play around with some foil shapes for my I14 and it sounds as if Xfoil is what I need. Seems XFOIL requires Unix. Are there other options? I'm not the brightest on the block when it comes to software requirements, so speak slowly

There are versions of Xfoil available for 32-bit Windows versions as well as for Unix-like systems. It reportedly runs just fine on Windows XP, 2000 and NT, but may not get along so well with older versions.

See http://web.mit.edu/drela/Public/web/xfoil/

It also has a bit of a users group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xfoil/

Xfoil, like most research code, comes in pieces and operates through a text console. If that's intimidating for you, you might check out JavaFoil ( http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/javafoil.htm ).

Javafoil has a much friendlier interface. It will take less effort to get results from it.

Matt and Rick, Thanks for the advice. I might try the original version, sounds like you feed it text input files like the old Fortran programs we used to put together in school.
