vpp wolfson unit

Hi, i'm a naval architect and i have some problem with the procedure to transform a cad hull ( f.e. .msd, iges, dxf, etc ) in a right file for my vvp ( wolfson unit ) a .VPP file.
For a while i can save a maxsurf file in 3d .dxf, then i can export in .lhf file, and i can choose if to export that in .off file or save in .wlp file, but i can't understand the way to import every file i saved in .VPP format.
can someone help me?

Tank you

Michele

Hey michele,
First choice you can download a file conversion program called
dxf to lfh from the wolfson homepage.
Second choice with hydrolink from maxsurf to *.off to Lpp as you did but make sure that you build enough stations especially at the point in the front where the underwater body becomes the bow, that is where you want a station. (Check waterline itīs to short if you were wrong and than you will see wether you have enough)
Third choice my favourite one, forget about the Lpp programm and put in the hydrodynamics directly in the VPP under flotations tab.
there you can find everything what the vpp will read out of the lpp, and if you think about it you will find that his is basically a hydromax job, produce a loadcase and an upright curve in hydromax, which you will have anyway and type most of the report data manually in the VPP, it is really easy and more precise .... my opinion.... and also it will prevent from loosing nerves with crashing Lpp or wrong values from there.
Although this last procedure just works for not canting keelers in the previous Vpp versions properly.

hope that helps and regards to lovely italy

Thank you Josh,
i like me too much more to use maxsurf and hydromax, but i need to do a VPP, and i' m not so sure span run as well as wolfson vvp,and hydromax not does a polar graph or stuff.
In any case now i'm working to learn how to use the wumtia software... They' re not simple as maxsurf!

Thanks, see you.

Michele
